Meet The Team
My love for cooking stems from baking, although I didn’t begin cooking professionally until much later in life. I was fortunate to be accepted at the Culinary Institute of America after a year at regular college. My love for inventing new recipes led to me taking on restaurant apprenticeships and part-time work. I needed to gain a breadth of kitchen experience alongside my studies.
After graduating, I joined the Toast and Tonic family in Bangalore and had the opportunity to create a video blog for 101India.com. I got to immerse myself into the diverse subcultures of the subcontinent, exploring rural India and falling in love with traditional Indian cuisine along the way.
Next up was a move to London, where I honed my skills in patisserie at the Cordon Bleu….. and begun dreaming of opening up my very own dessert shop in the city!
After graduating from college with a marketing degree, I spent some time working at a busy restaurant and deli in Boston. While my role was mainly front of house, I had the chance to hone my marketing skills and really put into practice what I’d learnt at university. My next work venture was here at Dezato. Over the last year, I’ve worked closely with customer insights to develop our marketing strategy and provide input into our product offering.
Although I now mostly wear my marketing hat, one of my favourite parts of working at Dezato is still the daily customer interaction. I love engaging with our customers on the shop floor. It gives me the chance to share my love for desserts and spread the word about all our latest concoctions.
Coming from an entire family of entrepreneurs, I’ve always knew that I wanted to start my very own business one day. After tasting some of my brother’s culinary creations, I quickly realised that I wanted it to be in the food and hospitality space.
The idea of Dezato first struck us when we noticed a clear gap within the gelato industry. We couldn’t find a single gelato shop that offered a more inventive and creative set of flavours. Gelato also wasn’t really being used as a part of other desserts. We wanted to fill that gap and shake things up by introducing gelato into other classic desserts.
I handle all the daily operations of Dezato. What I love most about my job is connecting with our customers. I love seeing their reactions when they taste our latest dessert offering. You’ll usually find me at the front of the shop, recommending new flavours to all our customers.
At Dezato, we’re determined to keep improving the quality of our gelato and desserts. Customer feedback is always taken on board, so drop us a line if you’d like to share anything about our products or store experience!
